LSA Projects supplied over 300 linear metres of Durlum Polylam baffles to the new Durham County Council HQ in Freemans Place in Durham City centre. The new riverside development moves the County Council headquarters into the city centre for improved public transport connections for staff and other visitors.
The purpose-built facility has office space for more than half of the total council workers, accounting for modern working practice including satellite offices and working from home. In addition to office space the HQ houses a café for staff and public use as well as event space for community hire.
Durlum Polylam baffles were used for the feature ceiling in the main event space; the ceiling is made up of 320mm deep 100mm wide baffles in concentric squares with the outer square measuring an impressive 20 metres across. Polylam pieces were finished in a Dur-Graphic faux veneer print designed to look like Cherry timber and mounted in 9 double-row rings with alternating strip lighting and integrated ventilation systems.
